Frequently Asked Questions

Browser Mode Known Issues

Frequently Asked Questions

This page covers frequently asked questions (FAQs) about EQuIS Professional Browser Mode.

What is Browser Mode?

EQuIS Professional 7.21.2+ can be run in a web browser (i.e., in Browser Mode), providing easy end-user access without any local installation.

How do I get Browser Mode?

The initial version is available on a limited basis to current EQuIS Online (EOL) hosted database clients. Interested clients should contact the EarthSoft Sales Team (sales@earthsoft.com).

Are there any limitations to using Browser Mode?

Third-party applications, EnviroInsite, and the Alive and Risk3T modules cannot be used in Browser Mode. Certain EDP Options (DaysUntilUpdate, RecallLastUsedFormatFile) are disabled. The OpenID option for user authentication is not yet available.

How do I run Browser Mode in another language?

Language preferences can be set by including a culture parameter (/?culture=XYZ) at the end of the URL where XYZ is the culture code. For example, to run in French, the French culture parameter is included at the end of the URL https://browsermode.equisonline.com/Professional/?culture=fr-FR.

How do I set/change the Idle Timeout within Browser Mode?

Set the BrowserModeTimeout variable in the EQuIS.exe.config file on the server. The default timeout is set to 30 minutes.

browsermodetimeout

Why can’t I see any saved connections on the Backstage in Browser Mode?

Browser mode runs on a server, not a local machine. For security purposes, no connections (i.e., *.equis files) are saved to the server.

What EQuIS applications can be run in Browser Mode?

EQuIS Professional and EQuIS SPM

Why does Browser Mode keep asking me to upload/download a file?

Because the application is running in the browser, the server does not have access to read or write files on the local computer. They must be transferred between the local machine and the server via upload/download.

How do I maximize a minimized window (e.g. EDP, DQM) in Browser Mode?

To maximize or re-open a minimized window, hover your cursor over the bottom edge of the browser window to display the DockMenu Widget, which appears as a gray bar. Next click the Window List button at the left to display the available application windows, then click the target window to toggle the display. If this does not work, check that browser settings allow pop-ups and try refreshing the display.

Can I login to Browser Mode using OpenID?

Browser Mode Authentication through OpenID is not yet available.

Can I use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in Browser Mode?

MFA is currently not supported for Browser Mode ALS authentication.
