For XY Charts in Professional, the Use Template Auto Max or Min Axis Values chart parameter has values of "Yes" and "No", and defaults to "No". When "Yes" is selected, XY Charts applies the X/Y-axis ranges of the chart in a saved XML template file to all the current charts. When "No" is selected, XY Charts applies the relative or absolute scale setting of X/Y-axis of the chart in a saved XML template file to all the current charts. The example below explains how to use it.
1.Prepare data: Run run an Analytical Results II (ARII) report with 2-3 analytes (e.g., ACETONE, BENZENE etc.) at two locations (B-30, B-31) and Unit = ug/l.
2.Build an XY Chart template:
a.Filter the results of ARII with CHEMICAL_NAME = ACETONE.
b.Start XY Charts. Select Group Series By = CHEMICAL_NAME, Group Charts by = LOC_NAME, and Y axis = "absolute" and interval = 100. Click Add Series.
c.Reference XY Chart Basics: Chart Editor on selecting Edit Style
to bring up the Chart Series Style window. Change Interior > Backcolor to a different color.
d.Click on X-axis area. Click Advanced, change DateTimeFormat from M/d/yyyy to M/d/yy (pay attention to the change in X-axis).
e.Click on Y-axis area. Scroll down in the Advanced tab to find/expand Range, slightly adjust Min, Max and Interval (e.g., change Min from 10 to 0, Max from 841.59 to 900, and Interval from 146 to 100).
f.Click on Save Template by providing a name (e.g., test), and then select No to answer the prompt "Do you want to store only the appearance?".
Note: At this point a text.xml file is generated. |
3.Open a new ARII and repeat Step 1 above, except this time, set Unit = mg/l.
4.Start XY Charts, select Group Series By = CHEMICAL_NAME, Group Charts by =LOC_NAME (note Y axis = relative by default), and Use Template Auto Max/Min Axis Values = No. Click Add Series.
5.Load the template from Step 2 above, and the color of ACETONE line, absolute Y range, and X-axis date format of the template are applied to all the charts. Note that each chart has its own range of X-axis.
Notes: •The template has only one line—ACETONE. So, only the color of ACETONE of the original chart is updated and other lines are not affected. •X data format belongs to APPEARANCE and its change demonstrates the appearance of the template works. |
6.Clean charts and repeat Step 4 above, except this time, select User Template Auto Max/Min Axis Values = Yes, and load the template. The max/min values of the Y-axis of the template are used on all the current charts.
