Constituents

The Constituents table is used to indicate the regulatory standards and measurement units for every constituent-media pair. All of the constituents recorded in the Observations table must be listed in the Constituents table.

Field Name

Description

Data Type

Must be
Populated?

Constituent

Name of measured parameter

Text String

Yes

Units

Parameter units

Text String

Yes

Media

Media in which parameter is measured (e.g., soil, water)

Text String

Yes

Fraction

Indicates fraction, principally for metals, which can be measured as either total or dissolved

Text String

Yes

Standard Name

Name of standard identified in this record. Multiple standards may be stored for a single constituent / media / fraction combination, as long as they have a unique Standard Name.

Text String

No

Standard

Standard value used in customized formatting in data tables when the standard has been exceeded.

Numeric - Floating Point

No

Standard Min

Lower limit of regulatory standard, such as the value in an acceptable pH range.

Numeric - Floating Point

No

Equivalent Weight

For conversion to equivalent-based concentration used in Stiff Diagrams, Piper Diagrams, Durov Charts, and Schoeller Diagrams. Negative value should be used for anions and positive values for cations. May enter zero for compounds not to be plotted in either a Stiff or Piper Diagram.

Numeric - Floating Point

No (unless plotting geochemistry charts)
