EnviroInsite saves documents to either an XML file or a VIZX document file. A saved document contains descriptions of each of the opened view windows and the plotted objects and their properties. This enables you to save your work and regenerate your session at a later time.
An EnviroInsite document file can now be run in EQuIS Professional via the EnviroInsite Document report. The report displays the objects generated within that document as graphics.
The EnviroInsite document file is created by following these steps:
1.Start EnviroInsite.
2.Add the views and objects to appear in the report output.
3.Create the document file by selecting File> Save As from the main menu and entering a file name.
Database
The XML or VIZX document file stores only the path to the database. If the path of the data file changes after the document was saved, you will be prompted for the new database file path during the next EnviroInsite session. The plot images generated when restoring a session file will also reflect any changes to the database made between sessions. Thus, a particular image generated for a round of data will reflect new or changed data the next time the file is opened. You may need to expand the query dates to include newly collected data.
Imported Images, CAD File, and Metafiles
As with the database, the document file stores the path to the linked image or CAD files, rather than the content itself. Updates and other modifications to these files are reflected in EnviroInsite when the previously saved session file is opened. If desired, the primitive objects of CAD files can be stored within the session file by inserting the file and then use EnviroInsite to convert the file to its collection of primitive graphic objects (see Exploding Objects).
Stored Paths
The EnviroInsite document file contains references to other filenames, such as shapefiles, CAD files, image files, and database files. EnviroInsite stores the references to these files with an absolute path (e.g., \Documents\Project Files\site 1\site1.jpg). By default, when a file cannot be located at the specified path, EnviroInsite will search in the folder and the subfolders where the document resides. This simplifies the process of transferring projects between computers, where paths are not expected to be consistent with the computer on which the document was generated. If EnviroInsite cannot find the file (or folder), the program will ask the user to find the file. On saving the file, the document will contain the absolute paths of all of the referenced files.
If moving a project between computers, the Zip Project function will package all the ancillary files with the project file.
