Speech Recognition

Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 include Speech Recognition capabilities. EDGE users may use their voice to dictate to information to EDGE. For more information about Windows Speech Recognition, see the Microsoft Support's Use Speech Recognition web page.

 

Note: Speech Recognition is available for the following languages: English (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, India, and Australia), French, German, Japanese, Mandarin (Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional), and Spanish.

 

Add the speech recognition shortcut to EDGE

Speech recognition is not included in the default EDGE package. Use the following steps to add this feature.  

 

1.Copy the following into the Windows Explorer address bar: "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessibility".

2.Copy the "Start Speech Recognition" file that appears to "...EDGE\Plugins\Shortcuts".

3.An icon will be added to the Plugins tab in EDGE.

4.Click the icon and follow the initial setup to start dictating to EDGE.

5.Windows includes a speech training tutorial. The tutorial takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. To access the tutorial:

a.Open Control Panel > Ease of Access > Speech Recognition

b.Click Take Speech Tutorial.
