How Do I Print to Scale?

The method for printing to scale depends on whether you are printing from the model or layout modes.

Model Mode – If you are in model mode, you can set the print scale in real world distance per inch in the Print Preview dialog box. Select File> Print or File> Export> PDF to open the Print Preview dialog box. Remove the check at Scale to Fit and then enter the distance per inch in the Drawing Units within the Scale dialog group. You can switch to entering the distance per millimeter by changing the units from inches to mm in the same dialog box.

Layout Mode – If you are in Layout Mode, you will typically set the Print Preview dialog scale to 1:1. That is, since the Layout essentially shows the contents of the page, you will have the printer scale set with magnification of contents. The print scale can be modified by editing the Layout Properties. Select Edit> Layout Props from the main menu. On the Plan View tab, check the Use Print Scale box and enter the map distance per inch at the Print Scale property.
