How Do I Create a PDF File?

There are two ways of creating a pdf file. One prints using the Adobe Acrobat printer (providing you have this installed) and the other is to export to pdf using the integrated pdf driver.

Printing using Adobe Acrobat – Select File> Print from the main menu in either the model or layout view. This will open the Print Preview window. Click on the Select Printer button and select your Adobe Acrobat print driver. From here you can center the image to the paper, change the orientation, paper size, or the print scale. When you're ready to print, click on the Print button to create the pdf file. This will result in a file dialog opening to enable you to specify the filename and folder to put the new file.

Printing using Integrated Printer Driver – Select File> Export> PDF... from the main menu in either the model or layout view. This opens a dialog box that enables you to set the filename and the pdf-image resolution. Click on the OK button and the Print Preview window will open. From here you can center the image to the paper, change the orientation, paper size, or the print scale. When you're ready to print, click on the Save to File button to create the pdf file.

Features from the Print Preview Window

Print Area – You can print the entire model or layout view contents by clicking on the Extents button. If you want the pdf to contain only some section of the view, select the Pick button and then click on two points that define the window that you want to appear in the pdf file.

As Bitmap – Placing a check at this property will result in the image being rendered internally in the pdf as a set of pixels rather than as vectors and text. If any of the objects have specified transparencies (including images or WMS maps), then you will need to select the As Bitmap property to have these rendered correctly.
